& 2002-09-07 Why does everyone's birthday have to come at the same time? Grr! I really like giving presents, even though I realize holidays and birthdays have become a tool of capitalists to make us buy buy buy! The perfectly selected, unique gift, however, can make both the giver and the receiver feel aboslutely wonderful. If I can't find that perfect gift, I usually just make a homemade glittery card out of my own paper. :) Well, September is when practically EVERYONE's birthday is, so I'm challenged to find the perfect present that symbolizes my feelings for EVERYONE. I think I've done a good job, although most of them will end up being really late. For Kayla and Chris, I got organic tampons from gladrags.com. Kayla's been dying for some gladrags, and although I can't afford to by her that, the tampons were within my price range. Christine, on the other hand, would never buy something that unconventional. She's not very progressive at all and probably doesn't care much about the environment or the dangers of tampons, because they're what she's used to. However, if she likes them, she might stick with them. :) For everyone else, I went to pisces soap. For Josh's aunt, I got a little pussy soap. For my gardening friend Wendy, a potted plant. For Tea, who's a fricking awesome writer, some typewriter soaps. No one's present cost over $3.00, but they're all very special, thoughtful, and unique. I'm glad that it's possible to give gifts to friends without being a total consumer, even if you have no crafting talents. DRATS! I forgot that my new friend Lizzy's birthday is on the 17th. And Holly's birthday is in October, and she'll also be having a baby shower soon! That's three new presents. . . and two challenges. What to get for a mother and a newborn??? I'm going to look through my motherhood edition of Bust for ideas, because I'm totally clueless when it comes to making/buying things for babies and pregnent women. :( Holly also wants me to pick out a crazy godmother name for myself. Tara is Aunt Tea, of course, and Paige is Nanna Moss, which has to do with some nickname of hers I am not aware of. The baby will already have one of my old internet screen names as its middle name (Leyanese). I want to be the cool godmother that treats you like a sister. Maybe I can be Sistah Sara. Hmm...
